Why are my tires Illegal according to Walmart?

I’m not qualified to suggest the size that you should use but you don’t want to buy Walmart tires anyway. They just aren’t the same tires that you’d get from a tire retailer. They may say Goodyear but you won’t find those models at a regular shop.

Since you had the tire off the the vehicle, WalMart would mount the tire you want. What they won’t do is mount it on the car. But if you hand them a rim and ask for the tire, they have an out as far as legal issues go. You will have to mount it on your vehicle yourself.

yeah, following policy is fine, you can always go elsewhere if you don t like it

Quoting @ tester ''First. You don’t replace tires one-at-time.

If you need tires you replace all four of them at one time."

Unless it’s an AWD vehicle with three well worn tires, why would you need to replace all of them? Please explain.

I’ve often replaced one or two tires at a time. I’ve never noticed any ill effects except for once when I replaced one with a different brand. It was an FWD car. I mounted it on the rear. The diameter was apparently slightly different. In that case, the low tire pressure warning light came on once in a while. Big deal.

If you like the tires, fine. Make sure the spare is the same size. The cost of fixing a differential because the tire sizes don’t match is much more. It is expensive to deviate from OEM tire sizes. That’s something you need to accept.

Just a bit of a clarification - and the usual IANAL: deniability:

It is common for folks to confuse a law specifically banning some practice and the way the law works in civil cases. While there may not be a law banning the use of different size tires than OE, many lawsuits have been won because of this. I don’t know what phrase to use to describe this, but I can see someone saying it is “Illegal”.

What makes this doubly difficult on consumers is that the legal liability rests with the tire shop even if the consumer signs a waiver. The principle is that the more knowledgeable person must do the right thing.

reasonable care?

I just get the impression that rather than explain the liability issues, the person took what they considered the easy route, and in doing so was disrespectful of not only the woman in question, but of the rule of law.

or perhaps they just did not understand the difference, which would just be sad and an indicator of an uninformed citizenry.

I know its just a tire change, but for some reason this just irks me.
when the police use such tactics, and they do, it infuriates me.

I took special care to teach my kids that the police were the good guys. even though I knew that it was not always true.

I would never let the tv show “Cops” be seen in my house because I did not want them to see the way the officers sometimes acted, and the constant portrayal of them tackling and hurting people.

the Rodney king incident really showed the threat. I realize that he led them on a car chase that endangered many.

but the way they were hurting him and saying to him to stop moving was sickening.
try getting kicked hit and beaten and stopping yourself from grabbing the hurt areas or stopping yourself from protecting your vital areas with your arms. its impossible.
