That depeds on the temp, thius week we have 3 days wgere it is going to be below zero, thewheel well accumulation are rock hard then.
I have bedrooms over garage. It stays above freezing as long as it >0F outside. Going to be -20F in the next day or so. Ugh. Winter sucks.
I think washing off the car and then using a lawn sprinkler that you can slide under the car makes a big difference. It it can difference between the car lasting 30 to 40 years versus 15 to 20, if it is done frequently. There is still a problem with non reachable areas, such as inside rocker panels. Some vehicles do not have rocker panels that are treated inside, and they slowly rust out from within once they get salt residue in there. You can put sand on the driveway to help with the sheet of ice. Clean off the driver’s door with a towel so it won’t freeze shut. Or put a space heater in there with the cord coming through the door, and plug it in some time before you leave. Some people have heated garages, and this allows the vehicle to dry out very quickly. Once dry, the salt won’t do any damage.
After it is done, disconnect the hose and lift it up starting at one end and walk to the other to get all the water out, our it will freeze and you can’t use it next time.
Some corrosion occurs from condensation. Your car will be colder than the air in the morning and condensation occurs. With a thin film of salt on the vehicle, this condensation will be far more harmful. Colorado is dry, and they do use road salt, but there is less condensation and much less vehicle rust.
I think most people don’t plan on keeping cars 30 to 40 years
When I was a kid our neighbor was so cheap, he’d put the car out when it was raining to wash it. No way was he going to pay to use the hose underneath. My mom gave his kids watermelon because he thought it was a waste of money. Pay attention class.
