1997 Honda civic, 206000 miles. Bad transmission so it can’t shift past 2nd, lots of cosmetic issues and some minor issues like outer door handle on rear driver side doesn’t work and the interior upholstery is destroyed. Good radio and speakers. I’m not trying to part it out and I know it’s a piece of junk so no need to tell me, just wondering what would be a fair price to charge for it? It was a great car for 10 years I just can’t afford to change the transmission.

EDIT: I posted in Facebook for 800 and I got 22 people in a few hours wanting it and 3 want to meet tomorrow

The cost of the transmission will be more than the vehicle is worth even after it is fixed. Just put it on Craigslist for 200.00 as a mechanics project . Or see what your local salvage yard will give you for it.

Civics are desirable as the basis for a street-hot-rod for a teenager, so you might get $500 for it; but check if your state or the junkyard will buy it back for more.

Around here the junk yard will pay $200;and free towing. I don’t know why anyone would pay $500 unless theft needed body parts.

Agree with trying to sell it as a parts car for best offer, if no hits then a scrap guy will buy it for scrap, I just sold a van for $300, so a much smaller Civic will bring even less in my area, scrap prices are down now in my area anyway… Heck if the doors would fit a 92 Civic (hadn’t checked to see if they would or not), I’d buy it if you were close just for the doors and then scrap it… lol
Civics are getting harder and harder to find, the tuner guys and gals have eaten them up, they have a cult like following to some, but to the average person, they are just worn out junk…

I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what people will pay for this, assuming it has a clear title, and the body and interior are decent. You only show the rear and passenger side, but assuming the front and driver side look similar, no rust/major dents, this is in good condition.

I’d say this is worth at least $1000 to $1200, and if this was nearby, I’d be willing to pay that much. I assume this is a “DX” model with hand-crank windows, non-powered seats, etc, and the transmission is automatic, correct?

Yep paint is shot. Interior shot. Trans shot. Little engine with 200k on it means not even a good transplant candidate. Limited need for 97 parts.

Yupers, the 5th gen Civic was from 1992 - 1995, so his 6th gen doors probably wouldn’t work for me either… I would have to ask my son, he is into them hard…

I just saw the trailer hitch receiver on the back, yeah towing with a Civic did not help the little trany that could, much less the engine…

Are you sure you don’t mean loud-slow-grocery getter. That thinks it’s a hot-rod. For most of these “teenagers” just adding this makes them think it’s a hot rod.

Reminds me of a craigslist ad or similar.
By the pictures and especially the description, this car is in fair to poor condition by layman standards. Not even close to good. By the auction grading standards- you’re looking at a grade 2 out of 5-

A transmission that doesn’t slip, has clean fluid, and seems fine in Reverse, Drive 1 and 2 might possibly be fixable if you can find a guy who knows what he’s doing.
This sounds kinda weird.

Wow, looks like you hit the sweet spot with that $800 price tag! Crazy how many people jumped on it so fast. How’d the sale go?

It seems most cars like this are worth $500 to the right buyer. If you have to have a scrap yard tow it, you might not get anything for it.

I assume you or a buyer could limp it a short distance at slow speed with it being stuck in low gear.

I was going to say $600. I’m glad you didn’t scrap it. A lot of people seem to do that when they could have easily sold it for twice what the scrap yard would pay.

Why pay $10,000 for a used car, when you can get one for $800 then a few hundred for a transmission rebuild kit and have something that may last longer than the 10k used car!

Also, the 10k used car could have been neglected and it could have a worn out engine that burns oil, and someone won’t find out about that until it’s too late and the sale is complete.

Easily? Have you sold anything like this lately? It seems to me, the lower the value, the more hassle it becomes. The cheapskates come out of the woodwork, don’t show up, don’t have all the money, etc. And then there’s the risk they start moaning about something failing on it 6 months down the road. Sure, you can prevail if it comes to litigation but just another hassle. My time and peace of mind is worth something. YMMV.

Let it sit in the box under some boxes of beer and talk about their new project that they won’t ever get started on, or will stop part way though after they realize that they don’t know what they’re doing.

Yeah not to mention an opportunity to case your house and garage.

I won’t sell anything anymore. Either gets put out free, to the junk yard, or pawn shop. Too bad there are so many jerks out there.

I just wanted to drop by to say I had a car exactly like this on the island. And I paid 500,000 JMD which is $3,000 USD.

The car was in very poor condition ( the body was rotten, the interior was trash, and the lights were all cheap eBay aftermarket lights. )

True, the transmission worked but everything else was crap. The irony is: the price was the cheapest I could find for that particular car. Anything else would have cost me 750,000 JMD.

To me, you could probably get $700 for that car. It’s a Honda and people will spend money on Toyota/honda vehicles.
