I put my keys in my hand before I leave the store entrance, press the fob on my key to pop the trunk as I approach the car and take the groceries from my from ny cart and put them in my trunk,
I may be in my 80s but I guess I am not as feeble as some. As far as all the “necessities” of modern cars, I would be just as content with a 66 Valiant.
My car has Bluetooth that has never been used, some sort of garage door opener feature I have never explored .a touchscreen that destroyed my night vision on dark country roads and 3 different ways of telling my fuel economy, none of which are as accurate as pencil and paper.
What it doesn’t have is a temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge volt meter, or amp meter.
I was so proud of myself that I took the time to change out all the batteries users in my home, clocks, remotes, smoke detectors, thermostats, flashlights, and even the vehicle Key Fobs on my 2019 and 2020 vehicles… and I even took the time to write about it.
Some members thought that I was being over cautious as they have had many years of use out of their fob batteries. I am more a “better be safe than sorry…” kind of guy.
Well, I guess I need to add “better not to be cheap…” I bought my 2032 Fob Batteries at the Dollar Store and the Use By Date was a like a Decade out – 2034 or so…
Last week the 2019 stopped unlocking without smacking the Fob and I changed out the battery again and checked it the 3-volt, 2032 battery which usually checks out new with 3.47 volts and this one read 3.17 volts in only a month…
Yesterday, the 2020’s fob would not unlock the doors either. I pulled the battery and it also read about 3.15 volts. Since the battery was out of the fob, I tried the “dead battery” emergency start. With no battery even installed in the fob, the 2020 started fine when I put the fob next to the Start Button.
So, I went out and bought Energizer Lithium batteries for the Fobs and while the 2019’s battery was out I also tried the dead battery start on it and it also worked as it should…
So, I guess the Dollar Stores batteries may be “new” 2032s, they are not up to the task and I trashed the other ones…
Here in San Jose area we have a Japanese dollar store called Daiso. Their batteries work pretty good for low-power applications like watches, smoke detectors, pocket calculators, etc where the in-use battery life and battery shelf life are pretty much the same. Don’t key fobs transmit as well as receive? Transmit mode uses quite a bit of power & not a good application for inexpensive battery.
