Aloha

My 2002 Rav 4 valve cover is starting to come apart just above the gasket. What causes this? Can I just put on a new cover?

If the cover is corroding, replace it along with a new gasket and you’re good. Never heard of a corroding valve cover though. Is it rusty, getting wet?
