I have a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup. It the basic, basic model. The wiper control has only 2 speeds and the intermittent control is just flicking it up with my finger. Is it possible to change out that wiper control with an up to date wiper control with variable speeds? Any advice would be helpful.

@marsworth7t this is what you would want to get. The variable speed “module” is built into the swtich, as you can see in the picture.

I did the same thing with an older bare bones Tercel, because I wanted a better wiper switch. It was plug and play.
Do you have a steering wheel puller?

I’ve replaced a turn signal and a wiper control switch before, I’ve never needed to pull the steering wheel. Replacing these switches s rather straightforward iirc.

**The wiper control has only 2 speeds and the intermittent control is just flicking it up with my finger.**
I had one (97 Tacoma) too and it was a little frustrated, but thought, if it wasn’t causing “digital tendonitis” it wasn’t worth the effort or expense. I had the premium model that had ONE intermittent speed. You aren’t missing much.
But I’m with @Proacfan, give it a try if you have the $$$$$.

Some manufacturers make switch replacement difficult.
These are the ones I was replacing at the Benz dealership. No shortcuts here, if I recall.

This next one is for a Ford. This is probably similar to the one @Proacfan was thinking of.
