I am looking to buy a used car for my 16 year old son. I am wanting something sort of cool, but not wanting to pay a lot of money. Does anyone know why Toyota quit making the Celica? Their reliability rates well and the price on used ones is not bad. Anyone familiar with the model? Thank you

I think they stopped making it because they weren’t selling enough - and they were starting the Scion brand to appeal to the same audience.

I’d stay away from the high-output, 180 HP version - much more likely for it to have been flogged or street-raced, harder for a new driver to drive.

My wife bought a Celica back in 1990 which we still have. It has just over 100,000 miles now and still runs great although it does seem to have its fair share of rattles. Repairs have been few and far between. Only downside is that dealer parts for some items can be very pricey. Only reason she bought a new car was that after having one car for 17 years she felt like it was time for a new one.

Most Celica’s are over glorified economy cars. They were never a sports car but really just a sporty car with good handling.

Point is…that kind of car in the hands of a inexperienced YOUNG driver will try to drive that car to EXTREME limits. Less apt to do the same with a Ford Escort.

I don’t think so, but with an Escort, the extreme isn’t as extreme.

> Does anyone know why Toyota quit making the Celica?
> I know a lady name Celica, As you might have guessed her father used to work for Toyota, I’m going to ask her if I got a chance.
