I too recall reading that the Corvair was highly controversial within the GM management ranks. I seem to recall also reading that it did, however, have apme support at the upper levels and it was the drop in sale after Nader’s book that was its death-knell.
Of course I’m looking at the question through the fog of pleasant memories many decades old.
