It’s for improvement in range, they upped them to decrease rolling resistance. We were told at a bmw tech conferences a while ago, there was even a retrofit tyre plaque if customers wanted it fitting to early cars. They realised the tyre was relatively narrow and it didn’t effect wear patrons.
