I think I was 7 when my dad brought home a red '55 Mercury wagon with, of course, wood decals. It was a cool car. Then came a '57 Mercury wagon with push button shift, wood decals, a powerful “Turnpike Cruiser” V8, this one white with red interior, a power window in the tailgate, and quad headlights – the coolest wagon ever!!

Those Merc Turnpike Cruisers were awesome!
I have some nostalgia for the Suburban, 1950s style. My first time ever lengthy stay away from home was when I enlisted in the army for the summer. We were picked up at strategic locations by an olive green Suburban with leatherette seats, no A/C, but it was fun. These Suburbans were the same as the Chevy panel trucks and half ton pickups, but with a station wagon body.
The driver put the pedal to the floor and achieved 85 mph; traffic cops usually left the army alone.
Hard to believe ,but the old “stovebolt” ran pretty good for its day
