I need everyone’s opinion on this, 2019 Dodge Ram, 5.7 Hemi, shy of 100k, it had a remanufactured engine installed due to lifter roller failure which liffter failure is a very common problem on these probably due to thin oil and a design defect in the oiling system.

Anyway besides the point. The vehicle hot back to the owner and 1 day later the transmission line blew off and dumped alot of transmission fluid out, how much I do not know thanks to a dipstickless transmission.

It gets towed back and it is said a clip failed or came loose. They fill ot woth fluid and the customer received vehicle. 2 days later the vehicle had trams fluid under it, got towed back again and it is determined the transmission cooler split and failed!

Is this just coincidence or do we think the shop damaged it? I am not familiar with that design.

Now how would anyone on the web answer that without actually seeing the vehicle?

You do realize it is fairly easy to measure how much ATF you add to any transmission right??? It is not like you are using disappearing fluid containers once the fluid has been emptied from it…

Is the cooler in question internal (radiator) or a stand alone cooler??

And yes, it does seem to have rad and trans cooler issues…

Is it coincidence?, probably… Did the engine being replaced add to the possibility of something else failing?, probably…

There’s alot of mechanics on here that may know if its a common failure point.

A hard burnout in the parking lot is a good way to show the shop that you’re serious.

davesmopar is the trans expert and may refute this but one thought was if they significantly overfilled the trans, it could result in higher than normal line pressure. This could cause failure where the system is weakest. If the cooler was corroded to begin with, it might fail under higher than normal pressure… If it were mine, I would have asked for the old part back just so I could verify its condition and failure mode…

No the common denominator is people that have attitude problems. Most of the people i interact with I have no issues with, in fact many people think im wonderful.

I went to go get information, I was met with hostility, I tried to defuse letting them know I was trying to help a friend and was met with more hostility. I then matched the energy and got snippy as I left. Typical human response, I am the good guy not the troublemaker.

I was in the tahoe and was not interested in hurting the parking lot, I did grab my dual horn impact gun air horn and I blew it as left, layed on it. I didn’t even roar out of there, I drove slow so they could hear the horn longer

We should analyze the cooler to determine if it cracked because of aggressive handling of the connectors or should we stay out of this because none of us are involved with the repair or own that truck.

Oil pressure to the cooler/lines can be between 20 and 50 psi, overfilling the sump generally reduces line pressure due to oil foaming.
It would be best if you refrain from any accusations with the technician.

Unless you represent the vehicle owner on a professional level, you won’t be welcome in the shop if not accompanied by the owner of the truck.

Would you want a stranger be allowed to inspect your vehicle while it is in the possession of a repair shop?
