2001 Taurus cranks but won’t fire. What should I be checking? Thx for your input.

A bad crankshaft position senor is one common cause for a crank/no-start condition.

Fuel, spark, compression… the basics!

One fairly easy test is to spray some starting fluid into the intake, then try to start it. If it hadn’t been firing at all and now does a little bit, briefly, that’s a sign the engine lacks fuel but has spark.

similar to a thread here yesterday, if your Taurus has a fuel inertia switch, check that.

You’d think Ford engineers would design that part so if it tripped, a light on the dashboard would alert the driver. Without that light it could ruin somebody’s vacation, or even put them in a dangerous situation. No warning for this on the dashboard?

agreed. My little sister was out late one night, hit a pot hole in her '94 Escort, and tripped this silly little switch. She ended up hitch hiking to my parents house to borrow their extra car to get home. (this h itch hiking got her a very nice lecture from her father and her big brother, lol.)

Next day I drove her out to her car, popped the truck, and hit the switch. She was good to go. Except she forgot her ignition key… 🤣 🤣 🤣
