Synthetic oil

@circuitsmith I agree; the filter shpuld always be changed with the oil. My Toyota is gong in next week for its 5000 miles change and the oil is still as clear as fresh Wesson’s cooking oil in a plastic bottle.

It’s unanimous; the filter should always be changed with the oil.
Circuitsmith, I liked your comment too. What you said is so true.

Some here have said that the lab testing of the oil doesn’t tell the whole story. How do you get the oil out anyway for testing? And how do you justify spending $25 for a test instead of an oil change? I suppose someone is going to talk about the California EPA dismantling engines to look for damage to prove you can drive 50,000 miles on the same oil. Save the whales.

"How do you get the oil out anyway for testing? And how do you justify spending $25 for a test instead of an oil change? "

I Took An Oil Sample While Changing Oil At A Regular Change Interval And Sent It To Blackstone Lab. I Did Both, Paid For The Sample And Changed The Oil.

Actually I’ve been changing oil twice a year and filter once a year.
But I only drive ~4000 miles a year, 2-3 times a week, no super short trips.
Now that the warranty has run out I’m going to once a year oil changes too.
