People seem to think that they are contacting just owners of vehicles like theirs when they use the Ask Someone feature. Why not change it to ( Ask for help about your vehicle ) . Also maybe put a note saying ( Post as good a description of your problem as possible ).
The name of the category is…
Ask Someone Who Owns One .
Pretty simple, really… if you own one (or have relevant information) then join the discussion and help out if you can. If you don’t own one then join a discussion topic that you are familiar with or can offer meaningful advice and pass on the one that you’re of no help.
I doubt very much it would matter. Regardless of rules or notes we still get comments from people that are of little to no help and only serve to make people feel unwelcome and it discourages people from posting anything.
Recently, a guest used this category to inquire about a 96 Olds…
"So I have a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL that originally had the factory 3.1 V6 but now it has a 3.8 V6 from a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix and the trans has been acting up lately, is it because of the engine or is it a common problem with the stock transmission?"
One person who really couldn’t offer any help and who should have ignored it made the following complete comment shown below.
It is just a problem with the transmission and it is old."
