Hi, jumping in, I’m a 35 year Master Tech, big Subaru nut, I have 3 right know, I currently drive a 04 Forrester 2.5, Let me give you guys a little help, your gauges on your dash are electrostatic (when the get old very inaccurate) this is so simple its staring you in the face, Subaru’s temp sensor is not in the radiator, its in the top hose (aluminum side) go to a parts store, borrow a an infrared temp reader, when the gauge says it in the red zone, check it with your temp reader, no smoke, no bubbling, running fine, (my Forrester stays in the red for the last 3 years) THE GUAGE IS BAD. I’ve SEEN THIS A HUNDRED TIME, BY THE WAY, THE MAGICAL 40 DEGREE THAT IT ONLY HAPPENS BELOW, ELECTROSTATIC GUAGES HAVE WINDINGS AND SMALL MERCURY TABS. REPLACE YOUR GYAGE IN THE CLUSTER. PROBLEM SOLVED.
