Some intersections are paved in concrete instead of asphalt

I recall that a couple interstate highways between DC and Greenville, SC were originally concrete but were paved over with asphalt and have remained that way. IMO the roads dept knew what they were doing.

They don’t experience (as much of) the winter weather & salt and plowing cycles we do up here in New England, which makes asphalt surfacing more of a jobs project here than there.
