So I have a code coming up on my car P0446. I’m told I need to get a smoke test done. I have no idea what this is going to cost. All I know is my inspection is expired and this I need this fixed ASAP. Helppp. ---

Ask. You have no choice. Figure the minimum hour’s shop time. A smoke test is mainly labor, so it’ll vary regionally. Basically, they’ll use a smoke generating machine to fill the vacant spaces (like the air space in your gas tank) in your evaporative emissions system with smoke, while watching to see if they can identify where the leak is.
