You don’t need a lot of snow to be subjected to a lot of brine solution. As mentioned, near freezing temperatures and the prolific use of salt or brine to combat snow or ice. Around here, it is ice and that forms more frequently than precipitation. All it takes is thawing during the day and freezing at night. Even so, the potential for encountering salt around here also depends on if the area is a wetlands protected zone where they don’t want a lot of salt water run off disrupting the ecosystem. Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo all make the claim they are the snowiest cities in the US for citiies it’s size or bigger. and all 3 are correct. Of the 3 Buffalo is the largest city and sees the least amount of snow. Followed by Rochester and then Syracuse. There are towns in the Tug Hill plateau area that see 2-3 times the snow even Syracuse gets.
