You don’t need a lot of snow to be subjected to a lot of brine solution. As mentioned, near freezing temperatures and the prolific use of salt or brine to combat snow or ice. Around here, it is ice and that forms more frequently than precipitation. All it takes is thawing during the day and freezing at night. Even so, the potential for encountering salt around here also depends on if the area is a wetlands protected zone where they don’t want a lot of salt water run off disrupting the ecosystem. You’ll see signs indicating it is a salt free zone…

Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo all make the claim they are the snowiest cities in the US for citiies it’s size or bigger. and all 3 are correct. Of the 3 Buffalo is the largest city and sees the least amount of snow. Followed by Rochester and then Syracuse. There are towns in the Tug Hill plateau area that see 2-3 times the snow even Syracuse gets.

Here’s some advice from @dagosa, a former frequent poster from Maine IIRC. He applied rust inhibiting oil to his cars/trucks.

“ Oil based material like linseed oil and biodegradable “G” oil are excellent choices. A mixture of paraffin wax broken down and mixed with oil makes an excellent longer term frame treatment. Bottom line though, you use nothing that clogs drain holes, hardens and exacerbates the problem. ”

I wonder what happened to him.
He was a very valuable forum member.
Hopefully, he’s still alive, and he just found other interests.
