Should a repair bill show separate cost for labor and parts?

I never said I was ripped off. The discussion is not about how much I paid for replacing the starter. This discussion is about getting a break down of my bill. The mechanic refused to answer it.

the bill is on a 8x11 sheet and uses up half the sheet

this discussion here is not about money but details or no details on the bill

I never meant to imply that I was ripped off - I don’t think so

So exactly what was done to the car and what was the total bill?

Well, if you’re not concerned about costs, what possible reason is there for wanting a breakdown of parts and services? What are you going to do with that information? I think we know the answer…

There’s markup and then there’s REASONABLE markup. Every GOOD reputable shop I’ve ever done business with charged me for parts the price I COULD BUY the part for. They usually bought it for less then that…but if I went the same place they did and bought that part it equaled to what I was charged.
