2001 Siverado, 186,000 miles, 5.3 engine, 4-speed auto transission. Shift lever is hard to move and hard to get onto right indicator position, drive, reverse, etc. Have to sometimes move it around a little to get it into gear. Once in gear, transmission works fine. Is this a problem with the shifting cable? Does it need to be repalced?

It could be a number of things, including the shifting cable. You will need to have it looked at by a professional for a proper diagnosis.

There are several possibilities. I is going to take someone there with hands on experience to make that determination and correction.
