Rusty 97 Honda Accord LX - Blown head gasket, worth fixing?

The S70 is on Edmunds, I priced one out.

Thank you! I’m not sure which style it is but its looking like somewhere between Trade-in at $1,591 and Dealer Retail at $3,610. What price should I mention when negotiating. I was planning to call sometime this evening.

@Matos

$1591 = what the dealer gives you if you’re trading the car in
$3610 = what the dealer charges if you’re buying the car from the

Don’t even think about buying this car unless you have an independent mechanic, who is not affiliated with the dealer in ANY way, check the car out

If the dealer does not agree to this, RUN away

It is in the dealer’s interest to claim that their own mechanics declared the car to be excellent

An independent mechanic is unbiased and just wants to collect his fee

Thank you! Until we get a new/used car, is it dangerous for us to be driving the Honda with the head gasket blown? What is the worst that can happen? How long do you think it will last? Do you think we’ll have any luck selling the Honda at this point - if so, for how much?

How much does a mechanic charge to check a car out?

Thank you all for your thoughtful advice and feedback!
