I’m considering getting the roof of my 2006 Toyota Corolla sprayed with a rhino liner bedliner type of paintjob. The roof paint now looks pretty bad. I know it will be very matte finish and not match the rest of the car. But I heard these bedliner paint jobs are more durable and much less expensive than traditional paint jobs. Anyone have this done and were you pleased or not with the results?

Why would you want a textured rubber roof ?

I’m a different strokes for different folks kind of guy…

But I have to ask, why wouldn’t you just get the roof repainted in the original paint color?

I certainly hope not . That would look terrible .

I thought you were planning on replacing this vehicle and it needed a lot of work so why would you even spend money on it. Since you are on an island in the muddle of an ocean I imagine there are a lot of vehicles with the same paint problems.

</div>

Durability shouldn’t be an issue. On a car this old, a good paint job now will outlast the rest of the car.

I’m sure you realize you’ll totally kill your resale value, as very few people would buy such a car.

</div>

Yeah I realize resale value might take a hit. I might get estimates on just repainting the roof the original color paint with clearcoat on top, but I suspect the cost may be 3 times what bed lining it would cost. Bed liner might look strange but I don’t think it will look worse than the rust and faded paint on the roof that’s there now. I’m not sure if I can afford to replace this car anytime soon or not.

Some people paint entire vehicles with Rhino Liner.

Responsible for distracted drivers? I believe distracted drivers are responsible for their own actions.

Distracting?
I was thinking it would be best to **park** the car while applying the coating to the vehicle.

I took this as a joke type statement because when other people see it they just can’t believe someone would do that .

… plus the temperature of the interior will be MUCH hotter in the summer as a result of increased heat absorbance.

Are you saying that the rubberized coating does not insulate as well as paint?

Come on…
DJ says he is not selling the car in the near future and I say it’s probably not worth putting an expensive finish on it.

In just a few mouse clicks I found bed liner roll-on and spray available in colors, including **_white_.**

It’s not a question of insulation.
White and lighter color paints absorb less heat than black paint.
A gloss finish will absorb less heat than a dull finish.
A rough surface will absorb more heat than a smooth surface.

Put it all together, and a dark, dull, rough surface on that roof will absorb a LOT more heat. It’s just basic physics, which we “proved” in my physics class through experimentation.
