I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 68,000 miles on it. My check engine light went on 2 weeks ago - the code is PO740 torque converter clutch. I’ve taken it to 2 dealerships and both tell me I need a new transmission - cost of $3000. I’ve looked on line - and there seems to be a problem with the linear solenoids and transmission fluid for those years of Hondas. Should I replace the transmission for about half of what I paid for the car?

Hmmm… I don’t know about Hondas, but on GM’s, the torque convertor clutch is a common failure and a pretty simple repair. I’d take it to an independant transmission shop for a third opinion.

I agree with GreasyJack, the dealerships didn’t troubleshoot your transmission. Trouble Code P0740 is, “Torque Converter Clutch SOLENOID CIRCUIT”. This could be something as simple as a TCC relay. A LOT cheaper than $3000. Go to an independent repair shop.
