Just to muddy the waters a little more, some modern cars with direct injection don’t even have a ‘butterfly valve’ that opens and closes. The air intake is wide open all the time, which is most efficient.
bh, one or more of your injectors are leaking, flooding the engine and making hot starts difficult…The solution I’m afraid is a set of new injectors…
There are a few motorcycles that still aren’t fuel injected, and you don’t need to activate the throttle to start them, so I suspect pressing the gas pedal was all about setting the choke since these motorcycles have a manual choke.
