… if you’re interested in learning everything about Chrysler’s Turbine Car program of the '60s. It includes everything–from the ongoing engineering changes during the development phase, to the construction of the bodies and interiors by Ghia, to the loaner program for assessing consumer reactions, to the rebuilding of the engine in Jay Leno’s Turbine car.

I’m a little booked up right now but I remember when popular mechanics covered the whole thing. No idea what year it was but 60s. Thought it might be the future. Seems to me there was one in Minnesota for a while.

I didn’t realize the author is the same one on you tubes lehtos law. A Michigan lawyer that specialized in consumer auto cases. He’s rhe one that filmed going north over the Mackinac bridge. Said he was delivering books to the UP. More fun riding along than actually driving over that bridge.

I was able to visit the NY World’s Fair, in 1964, and they were offering rides on a closed track, in one of the Turbine cars, but the line was so incredibly long that we couldn’t wait. Inside the Chrysler pavilion, there was a stage show, and the c l i m a x (believe it or not, that word was censored!) of that show was the unveiling of the Turbine car.

However, the one on stage was painted Pearlescent White, instead of the “standard” bronze/copper color. The book makes mention of one white Turbine car, but it doesn’t mention that it was used as the centerpiece of that stage show.

Allegedly it’s named after this tobacco brand.

Steam locomotives too. One at the Brasstown Bald mountain visitors center. Of course my girlfriend had to point out that it was a Clim\*x. I still wonder how they got that engine up on top of that mountain.
