Rav 4 atf world std

It seems that @Duffy1 failed to read the terms of his contract here and attempted to be humorous… I recall that happening here a few years ago and it wasn’t pretty. I think I’ll go to bed early. Good luck Mr @Duffy1.

@db4690 I agree on the WS; this was suspicious also because I had sent my wife to buy it for me. She knew better and called me 1st and I told her to just get the T-IV; the last two changes I have used Maxlife and pretty happy with it.

@Bing Most new transmissions don’t have a dipstick and part of the level check is reading the ATF temp though a code reader. This is also true of my 2013 Sonata. Most are reading the temp with an infra red gun and that is what I am planning to do. I am not sure if Toyota was like that in 2006 as they are usually not ahead in this kind of stuff.

@galant

Interesting now that your wife comes into the picture . . .

Perhaps the parts guy assumed the wife could be persuaded into buying the more expensive WS, which isn’t even the correct fluid for your car. Yeah, maybe he assumed women in general know squat about cars and can be persuaded to spend more than they should. Good thing she called you. Not everybody has that kind of common sense :frowning:

I think I see what may be going on . . . perhaps the Toyota dealership mechanics know from personal experience that WS can be used in older transmissions which call for T-IV, and there will be no bad consequences :neutral:

Except to the customer’s wallet :grimace:

Seems to me the fluid was about $12 a quart though for the full synthetic

And I thought Toyota’s WS tranny fluid at $10 quart was high. OH well…at least it’s only every other year for most.

In my neck of the woods, ws atf costs WAY more than $10/quart at the dealer

I go to a tranny specialist to get my tranny fluid flushed…he uses the Toyota fluid…but buys it on-line. He has cases and cases of it in stock. Only charges me $10/qt. I’ve never checked to see what the dealer is charging.

I paid $90 for tranny service at the Toyo dealership. Cheaper than doing it myself.
