My 1999 BMW 528i has a rattle in the left front wheel

When I hit potholes at slow speeds, and when I brake at highway

There is also frequently a subtle rattle while driving down

 The road.

You have a broken part.
I recommend looking under your car, and looking for a couple of parts that look like they should be connected, but aren’t.

Sway bar link is my guess.

BC.

This could also be a loose wheel bearing.
In any event, this is not something that should be deferred.
Take the car a.s.a.p. to a competent non-chain mechanic.
