Have a 2003 Subaru Baja with 140,000 miles. Recently I have noticed that when I pull out from a complete stop, and I am making a turn, there is a single pop that sounds like it is coming from the rear of the car.

Any thoughts on what that might be?

the pop you hear is most likely the rear diff. trying to stay locked in even though it shouldn’t. Have the rear diff checked out.

There are also a whole bunch of suspension components back there. Someone needs to inspect it all.

It is also possible that the problem lies in the viscous coupler/variable transfer clutch.
If the car has ever been run with mis-matched tires, this will happen and can be fairly expensive to fix. I would suggest having the vehicle looked at by a Subaru specialist.
