@mareakin If your BIL is looking at the RAV4 . . . do NOT get the 2AZ-FE 4 cylinder

If he’s looking at the CRV, make sure to adjust the valves on time. Even if they’re not noisey. ESPECIALLY if they’re not noisey

Getting a car with a timing belt is fine . . . as long as you’re comfortable with the fact that it has to be replaced at set intervals. Time and/or mileage, whichever comes first

As stated before, chains tend to last the life of the vehicle, but there are exceptions

Korean cars are not the garbage they used to be, so Kia or Hyundai should be a decent brand

Buy Japanese or Korean. If you want a car to last you 20 years or more, take good car of it and keep the rust away by frequent washing and that includes the underside.
