Their use is defined in the owner’s manual. I only use the one on the left to control sound system volume. Scroll up to increase volume and push the scroll wheel to mute.
I just ordered a 23 Tacoma, so I down loaded the owners manual, all 616 pages of it, gezzz, lots of warnings for people that have no business driving it seems like… lol
But I know it is a legal thing now so I have just been scrolling past it…
I like a book better in some ways because you can mark a page and flip back and forth in it much faster than scrolling, where as the PDF you just have to remember what pages you were looking at and then scroll to the next 300 pages trying to find the new page to read… But I do like the PDF cause with my bad eyes, it is much bigger and easier to read on my laptop… So, I guess they both have there pluses and minuses…
I will say so far this is the most of any owners manual I have ever read through, but I will be honest, I will probably just sit in it for hours, like a kid with a new toy, and play with buttons until I figure this thing out… Reading is NOT my forte…
PS: I guess any time you need to flip from page to page sections, you could just open a new tab and flip back and forth that way…
For all of the “read the owners manual” advice that people like to give here, I’ve never read one. Are you kidding me? TMI.
I use the index for the important stuff like the maintenance schedule, and what kind of bulb I need for X or whatever.
As an aside, I got a chuckle when I bought my old, used, high-mileage SAAB 9-3 convertible - the owners manual spells out how to fit 2 golf bags into it. No kidding. Now that’s good info.
Good luck with the new Tacoma. When I ordered my car, it took 6 months to get. I went online and read the owner’s manual. but I did not see much on my 6.4 engine just the smaller engines. when my car came in it had a hard copy plus a smaller book about my engine and the break-in- procedure. you will probably get a hard copy too.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he got several booklets. Both my 2011 Outback and my 2022 Lexus came with–IIRC–5 booklets: Quick Start, Owner’s Manual, Tech Manual, Maintenance/Warranty, and Lemon Law Guide.
I can reference the Owner’s Manual on my phone, via the Lexus app, but I would only try to read detailed information on that little phone screen if there was no hard copy alternative.
While you’re waiting for it, here are a few forums you can browse through.
4th Gen. Tacomas (2024+) | Tacoma World
Heck, just the manual on operating the radio is twice as big as the entire owners manual for my ‘72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus.
Thanks!!!
Sorry, you may have missed the 2023 part… lol
I ordered a 3rd gen 2023 SR5, RWD V6 with 11,000 miles on it from CarMax, already been shipped, only about 4 hours away, but should be here between now and the 30th… lol
I thought about the 2024, but I just have a mental block on a 4 cyl Turbo (I est about 11 psi of boost) making that much HP and a ton of torque over the long haul in a heavy vehicle, me turning down more power, go figure right??..
I just couldn’t do it, maybe one day, but not now…
It’s bad enough I am going to have to really enjoy all the tech this thing has to offer…
Technophobe?
Update on the 2023 Tacoma SR5 QCab, I picked it up on the 29th and am very happy with it…
I have downloaded the Owners Manual (616 pages), Quick Reference Guide (64 pages), Multimedia System Manual (310 pages) to PDF and I am glad I did, wayyyy easier to read then the paperback version, I do have all the manuals in the normal thick owners manuals book holder thingy that come standard on most vehicles, but when I was trying to figure out the Andriod Auto, I gave up on the book and took my laptop out to the truck to read the step by step intrusions on how to do it instead of messing with the book that I could not read very well…
I am still trying to figure out the settings for the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)… For the life of me I can’t seem to get them working that I can tell so far, and I asked my son to stand there to let me see if it would warn me and stop or whatever it does and he told me no… kids these days, so disappointing…
I know on my 23 Tacoma, the beep is so quiet I can’t hear it if the radio is on
That could have something to do with it then, I normally have the music going at some level anyway, does it not vibrate or something also??
Do the 23’s with the smart key have remote start or is it a TRD and up trim level thing, or nothing at all… I have seen plenty people (online) say all smart keys have it and others say goes by trim level, but Toyota does not mention it anywhere that I can find, even for the top trim levels… All I know is so far clicking lock twice and then a 3rd and hold the lock button down does not seem to work for me…
Remote start is a subscription-based service, even when you are close enough to the vehicle for Smart Key transmitter use. Remote start instructions are not shown in the owner’s manual, remote start isn’t considered to be an original equipment feature.
Remote Connect is included with each service plan.
Hmmmm…if I recall correctly, there was some reference to Slipknot at some point in the past? That gets played LOUD. LOL
OK, thanks for the info Nevada, as they sometimes are, all the online and YT videos are a little confusing on the remote start part… I park in the garage so not like i have to walk far, but if it had it, it would be nice, but I really don’t need it…
Oh yeah among others also, sounds pretty good for a stock system in the truck, wish the guy before me would have gotten the JBL upgrade…
FFDP with DMX’s This is the way sounds pretty good on it also…
I never liked any hip hop/rap until it got joined to metal (still don’t like rap unless it’s “metal-ized”). So I’d never be into any DMX if not joined to something like FFDP. And I do like This is the Way. And it all ended up (many years ago now) putting RATM in my top 10 (5?) favorite bands of all time. “Lights out! Guerilla radio! Turn that sh** up…”!
I used to love pulling up beside someone that was blaring Rap (you know, cross your eyes kinda bass) with there huge Bass, then in my old 95 Intrepid with My system, I could kick in (yes tape deck lol) And Justice For All and drown them out, I would slide the bass up and everyone in the other vehicle would turn and look at me with a surprised look on their faces… lol
Guess they had never heard Heavy Metal played through a system capable of a ton of bass and still able to clearly hear every instrument… But it was set up to play any music genre with a few quick adjustments, either through the 7 band EQ or the MTX crossover and even the amps if needed… Miss that car with the system, still have the system stored, just nothing to put it in anymore…
Yes, it does. It’s kind of picky though, got to do it just right, at least on all the 23’s I’ve come across.
On your fob, push the lock button once, will be a slight delay before the lights flash, as soon as the lights flash, push the lock button twice as fast as you can holding it down on the second push, should start in about 5 seconds.
It will run for about 10 minutes.
Opening the door shuts it off
Pushing the lock button for about 2 seconds shuts it off
Pushing the unlock button shuts it off
Nope, just a couple beeps.
Had a similar setup in my 66 Mustang, you knew what song I was playing from over a 100 yards way.
Might be why I can’t here the “Lane Departure Alert” in my truck
