About time a major carmaker publicly acknowledges this problem.

Most of the gauges on cars today are backlit. During the day with your headlights off, the interior backlighting on your dash will be brightest.
Turning the headlights on will dim the back lighting on the interior so you can better see out.
It’s possible for many people since you can adjust the brightness of the interior – that they turn it up to maximum and left it there so it never diminishes at night. If this is the case and the ambient lighting in side the car is competing with the brightness of the outside headlights then they’re going to have trouble seeing the road so it may cause them to start driving with their highbeams on.
It’s important the interior be darker than that outside to see well.
