Oil Reco for BMW E46 with 140,000 Miles

They will use a universal oil from a 55 gallon drum and that oil is unlikely to meet the LL-01 standard you need. Find a shop that either has it or will use oil that you bring them in sealed containers.

JL tried to sell me an AT fluid change in my 2005 Accord. I asked what fluid they used and they said a universal AT fluid, and swore that it was acceptable. I knew that only Honda fluid was acceptable and declined the service. Instead, I asked at the shop we normally use if they used Honda AT fluid, and they said yes. A mechanic overhearing the conversation pulled a bottle of the Honda fluid off the shelf and showed me.

I would recommend going with a 5w30 that was rated LL-01 or LL-o1FE for this BMW. Many people prefer LiquiMoly but you are going to get the same quality with Castrol Edge Euro or anything really with that rating.

I don’t believe 5w30 is the correct viscosity fpr this application

@OzarkImport Thx we found a Mobil 1 European Carformula full synthetic rated LL-01. My car manual recommends 5w-30 or 5w-40 so I was thinking about going with the 5w-40 it being a little thicker.

@db4690 Thx how about 5w-40?

Mobil1 5w40 european car formula is what I would lean towards
