First it was Jeep, and now Acura is ceasing production in China, due to very low sales figures.

It would be interesting to know the reasons why Chinese folks prefer a different brand.

For example, compared to other brands available, is Acura considered:

- too expensive to purchase?
- lacks desirable options/features?
- too expensive to repair?
- as a used car, loses values more quickly?
- less reliable?
- uses more fuel?
- repair parts difficult to source?
- insurance costs more?
- more difficult to finance?
- lacks safety features?

Well, compared to Lexus, the China sales figures for Acura are just… sad, so pricing certainly couldn’t be the issue:
[China: number of Lexus cars sold by model 2021 | Statista](https://www.statista.com/statistics/936154/china-number-lexus-cars-sold-by-model/#:~:text=In%202021%2C%20Lexus%20ES%20sales,for%20the%20last%20two%20years).

Also, even though Tesla sales in China have declined over the past year, it is obvious that Tesla sells more cars each month in that country than Acura was able to sell in an entire year, so it’s not too surprising that Acura is exiting. It isn’t possible to operate assembly lines in a profitable manner when sales are so stagnant.

> Tesla Inc delivered 100,291 China-made electric vehicles (EVs) in November, the highest monthly sales since its Shanghai factory opened in late 2020, a Xinhua report said on Monday.

Maybe it’s some sort of feng-shui problem. Car doesn’t look right.

Who knows? Maybe it’s a coal shortage or worker shortage due to lock down, theft of secrets, or other reasons. Just staying there are a number of issues with China and folks are re evaluating their partnerships.

Will the Chinese government be able to seize control of Pirelli?
We can only hope that the answer is NO.

Gee while we throw Taiwan under the bus and don’t fight a Chinese battery plant in Michigan, but worry about tires from Italy.
