I’m with TT, I want to see your vehicle and set up… Is it a FWD/AWD rally car, or a drift car, or a twisty track car, not thinking drag car as you have to much brake for that, they just need to stop before the sand trap…
So,
This thing is not for everybodies liking, I know a lot of the older guys at car shows turn up their nose, but I didn’t build it for them!
It’s a 61 E100 on a custom 2x4 chassis with Full Tilt IFS and Team321 IRS subframe and 91 Cougar XR7 IRS limited slip differential. Full air ride with custom control system, lays rockers, 2JZGTE-VVTi engine (Toyota I6 twin turbo engine all drifters use), Wilwood 6 piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers out back. I’ve designed and built/assembled the entire vehicle from scratch, and I have to say, as much as I know, I know virtually nothing about brakes and power steering. In the following messages, I’ve included some pics, but I have more @yegrbomb on instagram.
I’ve designed this thing to go low and slow, the engine is just to have some fun once in a while.
Again, thanks for your help!
And here we have the answer to a question no one asked . While I can appreciate the skills I can understand why people would just walk on by at a car show.
I respect the amount of work that represents
Looks like a fun project!
At least Twin Turbo and myself both asked to see the vehicle…
I love it, this thing is next level sick, my hat is off to you sir, you have some mad skills and talent, the guys that turn their noses up at this thing probably don’t have a clue, as to the amount of fab work it takes to pull something to this scale off, much less be able to do it themselves, I love the fact you got it on the ground with no camber lean…
Man, I looked through your IG pics and am incredibly impressed, you are next level to be doing this in a small garage basically by yourself… The one off bomber seats front AND back are very cool with the all wood covered tin floor, and the tin work is pretty nice too… I would have loved to have been a neighbor and been able to be a part of this thing helping out… I can only imagine how many feet of wire and tanks of argon you have gone through, not to mention the man hours…
Again, much respect to the build and your skill level…
Thanks Dave, I truly appreciate what you have to say. It feels good to be recognized by someone who gets it. Don’t forget the band-aids. I used an awful lot of band-aids.
So I get the tool tonite, I’ll gap the two pieces, mate them together and then try to cram 10lbs of stuffing back into a 5lb bird.
Sorry to see you’re retiring, hope you got some backup plans!! Car shows? Drag strips? Cars & coffees??
Actually, if you read the thread, TWO people asked the question and one of them was me. I’m also grateful he took the time to post those pictures. They may not be your cup of tea, but why disparage his efforts? Just move on by…
Count me in. I think it’s pretty awesome and I would certainly be spending time looking that over in great detail at any opportunity. I’m liking the trend of retaining the originality of the body and “patina” mounted over custom and modern chassis set up. That’s a ton of work and I respect what went into it. Thanks for sharing!
You are quite welcome sir, they, as well as Twin Turbo’s above, are well deserved…
Yeah, when they say blood sweet and tears goes into these projects they mean, the tears come from all the little crap you didn’t budget like wire and gas and little stuff, sweet comes from all the labor and heat leaning over hot metal welding, the blood comes from all the danged sharp edges that slice and dice your arms, hands etc… lol
I am looking forward to the outcome in the next day or two…
Thanks, yeah the early retirement wasn’t planned, health crap, and I am also a full time 24/7 365 care taker of my mom so not much time to do anything away from the house.. But I am slowly getting my garage all set up from the short move, I do have plans to help a buddy do a B16 (I think) into a 84 Civic 4door hatch that he drug out of a field and we got back road worthy, he has gotten most of everything we think (lol) he needs… Plus he has an old S10 he is wanting me to build a hi-po 700R4, engine and maybe regear it, possible the t-case rebuild on also… I plan on up grading my fun car also, have everything on the shelf, just need help physically with it… I am just limited with my back… but I can sit down and build the heck out of something… lol
BTW, once you get the Van all done mostly, some of us would love to see one good smokey burnout…
I hope you checked out his IG account pics, pretty awesome!!!
You bet, can’t miss TT’s comments also!
I’m hopeful the misalignment of the piston is the problem. All symptoms point back to a single item.
Sounds like you’ve got your hands full when you hang up the wrenches. Those sound like pretty interesting projects.
Yeah, my mom is headed down that road and I’m the care giver, I understand.
THAT is super cool! As one who loves lowriders and lived through the custom van era of the 70s, and a bit of JDM slid in between the rails. I love what you created!
