VW is reportedly planning on producing a small pickup in the US w/in a couple of years.

Somehow, I doubt that enough people would be interested in the VW, rather than the excellent Honda Ridgeline or even the Ford Maverick, but… you never know.

And, for fans of Mitsubishi, they are also planning on selling a pickup in the US, but–of course–it’s not _really_ a Mitsu design.

This is deja-vu with VW.

We all remember this, built in Pennsylvania, don’t we?

I can’t see VW even trying this unless they offer a good product at a much lower price than the existing truck market.

Nissan is in trouble and Mitsubishi wants to rebadge one for their almost non-existing dealer net work in the US.

Maybe both firms need to hire some logical thinkers.

Concept is like a maverick with a mid-gate. Just needs a us spec power train. For south America but VW could build them in the USA alongside the atlas. My vw fan brother could use something like this but how many buyers over multiple years does vw hope to attract? [The VW Tarok Concept: A Compact Pickup | Volkswagen](https://www.vw.com/en/newsroom/future-of-mobility/tarok-concept.html)

Ridgeline was developed for honda buyers who needed a truck bed,

The mitsubishi is a case of using a partner allowing the US dealers a truck to sell. Nissan undoubtedly has capacity to build them. Currently 2 Mitsubishi dealers in western WA when there were at least 8 when the Mirage was under $10k. Mexico gets the L200 truck

Vw used the EU market Ford Ranger for the Amarok sold in Mexico,

And that’s a good place to start the Chattanooga-built Amarok.

I remember those. Haven’t seen one on the road in ages though. Even here in Arizona, where cars don’t rust, those old VW trucks are extinct.

The Amarok has been requested by vw fans. Although they’d probably build them on the line where the Rangers built in Michigan.

The Ranger has increased its sales but the maverick still sells 2 to 1, at least for 2025.
