I have the 3.1 V6 in my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and today it started spewing oil out of what looks like an electrical plug in the front, toward the bottom just under the valve cover, dead center. What is this plug? ---

I’m not familiar with the configuration of this engine, but can you describe the plug? Sounds like it may be the oil pressure sensor? ---

I agree with @oblivion, it is an oil pressure sensor. Nothing else goes into the oil pressure passages. ---

Aka oil pressure sending unit.
