Hi,

I had intermittent problems with my 2000 Nissan Maxima. CEL on, hesitation, RPM not going up beyond certain level, would work normally with turning engine off and on again. I took it to the dealer’s service deprt and they said it’s a faulty MAF, they replaced it and the problems went away for a while, but same symptoms started after a couple of months and gradually got worse. I took it to the dealer again and this time they said there was a break in EGI wire and suggested to replace the whole harness for about $2000. I took it to another mechanic who found the broken cable and spliced it for $120. The car runs normally now.

I told the dealer that replacing the MAF was not necessary, but they claim that the broken cable had caused damage to MAF! Does this make sense?
