Are those 12 Volt electric blowers any good at boosting power a little? Even 1 PSIg of boost would help. Somebody on youtube reviewed a Chinese one and it didn’t help. But maybe there are bigger ones available.
The electric superchargers are junk. Several youtubers have dyno tested them with little effect. A mechanical supercharger requires a lot of horsepower. The 3 hp available from a 14 volt, 160 amp alternator is not nearly enough.
Good one John…
That’s OK. Then he can replace it with a Toyota 3.5L V6. Supercharge it for bonus power. There must be a scrapped Lotus with the supercharged engine in a junkyard someplace.
Like finding a needle in a haystack!
For the supercharged version, but lots of Camrys had the normally aspirated V6 and probably many other Toyotas did too. A Corolla would need suspension work to handle the heavier, more powerful engine, it would still be a screamer.
Has the OP considered that one of these “fastest” used cars was likely driven by the previous owner(s) like a race car, and as a result, the mechanical condition of his dream car might be… let’s just say… not very good?
I know you said you’re looking for the fastest car for about $12K, but if you really want to take a walk on the wild side, there are any number of used motorcycles that will give you a thrill.
Here’s a 22 year old Boxster for under $12k. Mind the insurance and maintenance and repairs, though.

I read the seller’s description. It looks like to only way to view the car is in their video. I suppose that also means you can’t have a mechanic check it out for you. With that and the comment that nit-picky whiny types shouldn’t apply I’d stay away from this one. How many boxes does this Boxter ship in?
i was just browsing the under 15k market, I wasn’t really paying attention to the actual ads
One of my neighbor’s has a 20 year old Boxster, been sitting parked aside the road for several months unused, so asked him if he wanted to sell it. $18 K. A little too rich for my blood, esp given the poor condition of the paint and soft-top roof. This was prior Covid, and don’t think he really wanted to sell it. His wife seemed pretty keen to the idea tho … lol …
A guy’s worst nightmare is that his wife sells his stuff for what he told her he paid for it.
I’d probably be out 5-8 thousand just on watches.
Plenty of 2000-2010 Mustang GT (all have a V8) in that price range. Forget a '60s musclecar, junkers at that price.
GT’s are good indeed. My friend’s brother got at a 2012 GT for 10 grand and it is a great first project for him. He’s looking to get Steeda tune after installing the new tires and method wheels next week.
