Hello Everyone,

I don’t know if some water just got up in there from a car wash or something, but when I have a fairly sharp turn, I can hear some kind of liquid or sediment shifting on the passenger side of the vehicle. When it’s a really sharp turn a little bit of liquid dribbles out from behind the glove box onto the floormat. It doesn’t smell bad initially but sometimes when I get in the car I smell it for a moment. It might just be stagnant/dirty water. I ask a mechanic when it was just a noise before the dripping started and he guessed just some ice or something got caught up in the undercarriage. I am in the Chicago area now and never had this problem wihen I lived down south, so it does stand to reason that it might have something to do with melting precip seeping in. Thoughts?

The condensate drain hose for the air conditioning might be plugged.

If so, water can collect in the pan below the evaporator to a point were it spills while turning.

Ask your mechanic to take an air hose and blow into the drain to clear it of any debris.

If it has one, remove the cabin air filter and have a look in that area.

Will definitely ask them to give it a try. It’d be great if that’s all it was. It does sound like a pretty good bit of liquid or debris shifting in there, like you hear it moving for 2 or 3 full seconds after the sharp turn.

Not sure the word mechanic applies here. Sloshing noise in vehicle dash the first suspect is a clogged airconditioner drain.

Well? When you think about it, back in the day vehicles came with rubber floors. Then they started putting carpet on the floors. And now? We buy rubber floor mats to cover the carpet on the floors!🤪

BTW, clogged drains are fairly common. Some designs are more prone to clogging than others.

Can also use those pipe cleaners we were handed out during 2nd grade art class to clean out those drain pipes, as well as sunroof drain lines

I’ve seen suggestions that zip ties can be used and are flexible enough to avoid puncturing anything accidentally.

Here’s something that happened with my Chevy Volt, completely different than the common clogged evaporator drain. I heard sloshing sounds when turning. Then my air conditioning stopped working. I opened the hood and found a “lake” below where all the windshield wiper hardware is. There is a well there and there are 2 drains on the left and right side. Those drains were completely clogged from leaves and other debris. Once the water level rose where it touched the cabin air filter is when my AC stopped!

I used a straightened wire hanger to clean out the two drains and all the water poured out! Replaced the cabin filter and AC worked again. I now regularly check those drains. So something else to watch on our cars!

If you see this coming through your dash vents, run!!

😀

Apologies anyone who was offended by my take on liquids coming from behind the dash, using a scene from a post-war sci fi movie, or lacked the humoristic capacity to take a joke.
