Driving for 45 minutes is never going to be as relaxing as sitting in your favorite chair, sipping a drink. For me, the travel is a part of the job, and the car expenses take away from the $$$ that I am working for, and the travel time cuts into MY worry-free down time.. If the travel becomes problematic, it will help me change what is necessary to resolve that. The new Corolla is cheaper and also reduces the worry that goes with car ownership.
I agreed. But what I was asking, though, is how the NX compares to the ES based on my relativeās needs outlined in the original post.
Do you think the NX is better for her kids ? Based on a few comments here, the ES is more comfortable, which I think is a top priority for the relative.
A crossover is easier (at least for older folks) to get into and out of, because the seats are exactly butt-height. Whether this would be a positive or a negative for kids, I have no idea.
Most peopleālike meāsay that the elevated seating position of a Crossover or an SUV gives the driver a better view of the road ahead, and that could be considered to be a safety advantage.
The interior room is roughly similar, but I think that the Camry/ES is slightly roomier. The NX has excellent ride quality, but the ES does also.
Just my take knowing nothing about Lexus. 50 years ago I was given wise council that if I was going to drive 120 miles a day, do it in the largest most comfortable car you can. So Iāve always driven olds, rivieras, and comfortable cars. Calculate actual gas costs and it becomes a relatively minor expense. I would get to work or home relaxed and safe. No back problems. Just enjoying the coffee and the rude.
To those suggesting to drive a small economy car day after grinding day, I call foul. I have rented the small ones when necessary and it aināt no fun.
Do what you want in this free country but donāt be afraid of a little luxury for a couple hours a day.
I find that to be true. My wifes Crown is kind-of-a mix between sedan and crossover. It only comes in AWD and Hybrid. It sits about 3-4 inches HIGHER than her 07 Lexus ES. I find it very easy to get in and out of.
Our 2018 Ford Fiesta rode just fine even on long trips and got decent MPG. Just because it is not a large vehicle does not mean it canāt be comfortable .
Plus anyone with kids should really concider a midsize hatchback .
I spent many years in Escorts (3 of them), and always found them to be comfortable. Then again, there was that little Hyundai or Kia thing I rented onceā¦
Either is fine for three passengers. The NX might be a better choice if the children participate in sports with a lot of equipment. If your family member carries a lot of equipment for her job, the NX might be a better fit.
Why donāt your family members create an account and ask their questions themselves?
Whatever they hear from you about car recommendations is several steps removed
For all the time theyāll spend in the car, theyāll want to take a LONG test drive. Different seats fit different folks.
Youād be surprised at how many people, especially in the medical field, dont participate on social media.
And the relative in question isnāt the kind to ask questions online.
Okay
Thanks for the explanation
Sheās leaning more towards the NX as the ES looks dated. It reminds her of cars in the 90s.
Is she OK with a fair amount of tech? The dealer we bought our RX from had an almost-new NX available, the original buyer couldnāt handle the tech.
She should be fine. Sheās young. In her 30s.
If I can handle the ātechā of an NX at the age of 77, a 30 year old woman shouldnāt be intimidated by it. The NX is one of CRās top-rated models, and they think that 350H is the best all-around model
It sounds like she knows what she wants so it might be time for you to just drop out
One has a trunk, the other a liftgate, that much is obvious.
They both use the same hybrid powertrain but non-hybrids are very different.
The ES350 has a 3.5 liter V-6 similar to the engine in your Lexus.
The 2015 - 2021 NX has a 2.0 liter turbo charged engine, which is known for certain problems.
The 2022 - 2025 NX can have the 2.5 L engine (Rav4) or the more common the 2.4 liter turbocharged engine.
The 2013 - 2018 ES350 has dull styling, the 2019 and newer has a much more attractive exterior and interior.
I am trying to like the ES as well. The front end looks rather dated.
Is it true that the current BMW 3 series are reliable ?
I was on Reddit doing some research and I saw some dated articles suggesting that newer bmw series 3, particularly the 330, is bulletproof.
The relative loves the design of the 3 series but scared to death of high maintenance cost.
Iād choose an ES over a BMW 3series
The ES should also be FAR cheaper to operate, especially if itās a hybrid
Another thing to consider . . . Lexus has excellent value retention
