when replacing valve cover gasket, using the cork based one. Do you use any gasket sealant or any kind of silicone or just put it in by its self.

This is gonna be controversial. I like to put a thin coating of fresh oil on these. Silicone (RTV) is overkill, but if you do use it be sure it’s oxygen sensor safe.

What is the application? If there are no updated gaskets available I apply a thin coat of anerobic sealer.

I too try to lube the cork gasket with a little motor oil.

I have found a few though that just do not want to stay put while you turn the valve cover over and get it in place.I always try them first without oil…if they won’ty stay put then I put a dab of aviation sealer on them.

I use this for the type of gasket you’re working with.

[http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/gasket-sealants/permatex-high-tack-spray-a-gasket-sealant-detail](http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/gasket-sealants/permatex-high-tack-spray-a-gasket-sealant-detail)

Just spray a light coat on one side of the gasket, let it tack up, install the gasket on the valve cover, and the gasket will stay in place while the valve cover is installed.
