‘90 Caddy Brougham d’ Elagance. 5.0L…Rear seal uses “rope” type material for seal…What if anything, outside of replacement, can be done to seal this type of seal? Vehicle has 197K on it…

 Regards,

 Carl

The only true solution is to replace the seal.

I figured as much, but since it is a “rope” isn’t there something that can be used to expand the material and stop the leak?

There are products on the market that claim to stop rear main seal leaks. Whether or not they work I can’t say.

I would wonder what else they might affect in addition to the seal.
