our jetta seems to have hick-up’s upon acceleration. we’ve done everything we think possible besides hooking up to some computer…

the mechanic is baffled as we…he replaced all the spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor, timed, premium gas, additives, oil change, filters, blah, blah, blah nothing for weeks and we’ve gone through two mechanics already,

 it didn’t do this before

Maybe it’s time to hook it up to “some computer.” There may be diagnostic codes stored in the computer. How will you know if you don’t check?

First step (assuming this was never done) is scan the car for codes. AutoZone, Checkers, or whomever will do this for you free.

Assuming no codes are present, then the possibility at least of a failing fuel pump could be considered.
