I’ll check “Dissertation Abstracts” in a couple of years (if I live that long) and see if this dissertation is ever written.
Well I’ve been told I bear close attention. It’s a shame that it’s so late coming and all I rate is scrutiny from a college student writing a dissertation. Maybe Billy will PM my review. Then I’ll feel real important.
I hope I didn’t misspell any words.
thanks for cleaning up my post Carolyn, the spirit remained intact. good job
dc circuits are in series, in which current is constant at each load, the voltage varies according to loadingac circuits are in parallel, generally, and the voltage is constant, while the current varies according to load
a series circuit has all the loads on one side of the circuit, the positive side generally
a parallel circuit is comprised of interconnected loads which the current travels thru simultaneously, or darned close to simultaneously anyway
Well, volts = amps X ohms for both CD and AC circuits and all auto DC circuits are in parallel, so I guess I would disagree with your analysis.
I don’t know whether this dissertation research is real or a means to provoke people, but CSA’s right. It’s not what the forum’s here for. However, I do think that there is a way to offer constructive feedback if you’re inclined to give it. Others have done so further upthread.
you are right and I am wrong insightful. current is constant in series and voltage is constant in parallel . I should have stopped there.
I think that Billy has an opinion about the group dynamics here, and if he’s trying to tell the regular group of posters something about being exclusive (or what have you), there’s a respectful way to do it. Earlier in the thread, others offered their theories why we don’t get a lot of new people who stick around, but they did it in a measured way. The dissertation comment was intended to provoke, and it worked.

I live in WNC near a section of I -40 that was built in 1959. Our problem is that some of the bridges are to low. The interstate was cut through mountains with large rocks and several of the local bridges across it are lower on one end. When it was built the bridges were to low for some military equipment to pass under and it was understood by state government that if over sized equipment needed to be moved in a hurry that the government would blow up the bridges. When the Snow Birds move (mid sentence change in tense) their huge boats or an oversize load was too tall they had to exit the interstate and use a secondary road for about 13 miles till they pass these bridges.
Thankfully, the state is finishing up replacing the three bridges that were to low.

I ask you, does this sound like the writing level of a doctoral candidate? I think Billy is pulling our collective legs
@cdaqila. Thank you. I did not think your comments were directed specifically at me. You make valid points. Unfortunately, I took BillyThe Troll’s bait.
I’m glad you responded to Billy the way you did
I think he’s smug and full of himself
On top of that, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there is, and never will be, a dissertation
I believe you said what needed to be said
We are not lab rats, and I think it was extremely insulting for Billy to essentially label us as such
Furthermore, I believe it is sometimes justified and/or necessary to respond the way you did
I applaud you
@db4690. Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. My only regret is that I gave the troll any satisfaction. If my public display of temper has offended anyone or my taking his bait has caused any problems, that I regret and apologize for. In all the years I have been privileged to participate in this forum, this is the second time I have lost my temper; the first time over a discussion of drunk drivers, a topic I have just and tragic causes (multiple) to feel strongly about. As you so succinctly put it, we are not lab rats and being treated as such is utterly rude. Trolls used to be mythical nasties living under bridges and or within mountain caves but nowadays are all too real inhabiting the internet. Oh well, he will end up reaping in life what he sows.
+1 for csa. (Apologies csa for the previous typo of csw.)
I guess this has gotten the forum going now, not bad
Even if there was such a dissertation being written, why come here? Haven’t there been enough studies on the “alphas” of just about every group, herd, tribe, gang, church, business, society, and community, and any other group you can think of already? Useless comes to mind for me.
If Billy was only interested in “alphas” he wouldn’t pay much attention to me. On a good day I struggle to get to “omega.”
"On a good day I struggle to get to “omega.”
Please, guys–Let’s keep this on an automotive theme!
I will re-write your sentence accordingly:
On a good day, I struggle to get to my Oldsmobile Omega.
“If Billy was only interested in “alphas” he wouldn’t pay much attention to me.”
If Billy was only interested in Alphas Romeo he wouldn’t pay much attention to me.

Billy must have seen there are no bullies or alpha males/females here, and gone to a different board to verify his/her hypothesis.
I think one thing that really differentiates this board from others is that when someone insults us, we do get a little angry, but soon the humor returns, as it has done here. On other boards that I visit, once the humor is gone, it does not come back.
I don’t see bullies here either. We have had a few that have tried to pollute this board in the past, but they didn’t last.
Let’s all enjoy humming Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King” as we motor along this bright Saturday.
