Is there a vent on a manual transmission for a 2003 Toyota Corolla? If so, what is the location?

If I had to guess it’s the small silver cylinder sticking out of the top:

I’m pretty sure this is the same C59 5-speed transmission as in my 2006 Matrix.

The two times I’ve changed the oil I get a puff of air when I remove the fill plug, so it doesn’t seem to have a free flowing vent.
I think that’s odd, but if it ain’t broke…

All gear assemblies require some sort of vent on their case. Without it, the gears/oil in the case would heat up, build pressure and blow the seals out. The vent is located on the highest part of the case.

Thanks for the info. I had the same problem when taking out the plug after the car had been sitting for 24 hrs. and there was pressure in it. My car seems to be running rough and I suspect it may be the transmission.

A plugged vent on a manual transmission will not cause a car to run rough.

Bad choice of words. What happens is when I put it in 2nd gear, I start hearing noise, 3rd and 4th and 5th gear the noise get much louder.

This trans from 2003-4 have had a lot of bearing failures.
In 2005 they improved it.

So I guess the transmission is going out?
