Those, as far as I know, those Monte Carlo bodied cars only raced in cup races, not IMSA sports car races at NASCAR tracks.

I believe that you are right. The car in question is a 1970 SS with a 454 engine. (Your example) While there were homoligation rules for NASCAR race cars, they were still heavily modified before racing. BTW, I like the boat tail Rivieras too. I want mine slammed and riding on bags with a wild paint job. That’s one of my favorite low riders. Something like this:
My point, though some manufacturers have advertised their cars as five passenger sports cars. They are not, though some sports cars may hav jump seats in the rear like the Auston Healey 3000s.
I forgot who posted above but agree the Monte Carlo was a (entry level) personal luxury car. Never a sports car.
Like the Riviera, just need to upgrade the interior with zebra patterned upholstery
