Is getting your ride professionally detailed with it?

Grew up ice skating on outdoor ice rinks. Uncle Sam sent me to Florida, now I get cold just walking past the frozen foods section.

My teenage son wore shorts and a T-shirt to go to dinner Sunday night. Iā€™m working at my desk today wearing shorts but a long-sleeve shirt because I have to be on camera in a bit. Iā€™d be wearing a windbreaker if I were outside right now. But I will admit 80 degrees last week in Puerto Vallarta was wonderful.

What part of Seattle are you visiting? Iā€™ll be at work in Kirkland on Thurs and Fri.

Alki Beach. We went to Pikes Place a couple days ago and the Space Needle today. Quintessential tourists! We also went to the Chilhuly Gardens and Glass exhibit today. Thatā€™s magnificent! About 27 years ago I was in Kent for a month for work and never saw Mt. Rainier in its entirety, the peak was always obscured by clouds. Today we saw the entire volcano from downtown Seattle.

I hope that you took the Underground Seattle Tour, because itā€™s really fascinating. That, and a tour of the Boeing plant in Renton were the most interesting parts of our visit to Seattle, but Iā€™m not sure if Boeing still offers tours.

The view of the mountain changes hourly with the weather this time of year. This was the view from my back deck an hour ago, now the sun is out.

Pictures never do it justice.

We were in seattle about 82. Swung by a relatives in chahalis and collected some samples from mt. St. Helens after it blew up. Then over mt, rainier Friday night. Drove all night. All day Saturday. Most of Sunday and Monday morning I was still in South Dakota. Called work saying I had another day of driving to go yet. That was a long drive. When I was young, could do that.

As a compromise, you (or someone you hire) could just thoroughly clean all the windows, inside and out, and the mirrors. Make them sparkle. Makes a big difference to the driving experience.

No time for that. after the Chulhuli we needed to get back to the Air BNB. The baby needed a nap. We are off to the airport soon.

We noticed he variability. The best view we had was like the photo you posted. It was visible but hazy early but in the way home we could see snow.

I would answer these questions all the sameā€“ā€œno flippinā€™ wayā€. I can eat a better meal at home for a fraction of the cost, no tax and tip required, no risk of being exposed to other peoplesā€™ diseases, etc. I can keep my yard maintained for a fraction of what a landscaping service would charge. And I can cut my nails at home, and file away the sharp edge, no need to pay a salon to do that. Etc.

I see no value in paying someone else to clean my car. I can do an adequate job at home with a garden hose, Windex, and paper towels. While my cleaning job wouldnā€™t pass for a professional detailing, it also costs next to nothing.

Thanks everyone for your input. Much appreciated.

So, the message I got from the community regarding having a vehicle professionally detailed is that such a practice is a personal one and isnā€™t a necessary requirement. Itā€™s giving yourself and your car a treat.

I agreed. I also agree that itā€™s a good practice to having your car detailed once every two years.

Iā€™m definitely going to shop around as the price I was quoted recently isnā€™t a manageable one, especially for a service like this. When I had my Camry and got it detailed twice, I paid $120. But still had to give tips.

I agree. If I wasnā€™t disabled Iā€™d do these things myself.

Well, the next time that youā€™re in the Seattle area, I urge you to take that Underground Tour. IMO, itā€™s really fascinating.

Yeah I guess people with disabilityā€™s like Stephen Hawking, Michael J Fox and others are just being lazyā€¦ :man_facepalming:

There comes a time in your life after working for well over 30 years doing hard labor, when you have chronic lower back pain (hurt it at age 18yo) that you have to see a specialist every month for years now as well as have a neurological disease (since 2016ish) that makes you shake and drop stuff that you finally say F it, someone else can do it for me nowā€¦

And for those of you still able to do it yourself, count your blessings cause those of us who canā€™t, wish we could or still couldā€¦

Nothing sucks more for a man that has always done most everything himself and recently even had his transmission in and out a few times (all for different reasons lol) to pull it by himself (as well as a crap ton of other stuff), build it and then go to install it and your body just says nope ainā€™t happening sirā€¦ And then have to call a friend to pretty much do it for youā€¦

There are things I donā€™t do anymore. I donā€™t have any physical problems and in pretty good shape, but Iā€™m also over 70. I still do my own work on cars. Luckily our vehicles have been extremely reliable and all Iā€™ve had to do is PM and normal wear and tear stuff like brakes.

Unfortunately MANY MANY people who canā€™t do any strenuous physical activity is self-inflicted.

Iā€™m mid 70s and donā€™t feel any need to limit my physical activities. I can still run a buffer same as before. The big difference is that I could care less if I get through my list or not. Tomorrow is another day or it will be someone elseā€™s problem. Also if the garage is under 70 degrees, I think it is just too cold to change oil. I can turn the heater on but that takes initiative. Iā€™ve still got a water heater to flush on a dead New Yearā€™s Day, but itā€™s inside.

Money is just a figure on a spreadsheet and should be used for something you enjoy or to avoid something you donā€™t enjoy.

+1
As my late mother used to say, ā€œThere are no pockets in burial shroudsā€. In my few remaining years, I intend to enjoy myself as much as possible, and if that costs some $$$ā€¦ so what.

I no longer remember the comedian who told this jokeā€¦

People comment that it is so sad that someone died pennilessā€¦

I see that not as sad but as good planning!

I think the core question is, ā€œDo you enjoy doing it yourself or is it work?ā€.

Spring or Fall, nice day, and afterwards the satisfaction of a job well done and a cold beer? Doesnā€™t get much better.

Summer heat or Winter cold, $250 is a bargain for a Pro to do the work.

Although I like to have the beer(s) while I do the work. When Iā€™m done it goes straight into the garage not on the road.
