Introducing the "Lego Car". Is this a workable, very small EV alternative for the USA?

Fuelly shows the Civic’s reported mpgs just about unchanged for it’s entire life, ~30 mpg every year as it got bigger, faster, safer, and less-polluting.

The Corolla has improved significantly in the last few years, from 30 mpg to 40 mpg, probably because of the addition of the hybrids.

Those cars have city fuel economy ratings below 25 mpg. Even if I were on vacation 52 weeks out of the year, I still wouldn’t do enough highway driving to appreciate the highway mileage over the city mileage.

Friend has a 2017 Corvette Stingray. In 7th gear and ECO mode and cruising at 75mph he can easily get 32mpg. At 75mpg in 7th gear the RPMs are under 1500. Also cruising speeds the engine will turn off 4 cylinders. But around town - 22 is about the best you can get.

These days, you’re hard pressed to find anything than can’t get 25 MPG on the highway as it pertains to cars and CUVs.

On my last trip of any significant distance (2,5 hours) my bolt-on/tuned, V8 powered Mustang ( 6 speed manual, 3.73 rear end) managed about 30 MPG. Now that is an all time high, highway mileage is typically around 25-27 MPG. My F-150 (4WD, A10, 3.55 axle ratio) will do about 24 MPG on the highway and 20 MPG combined. But you’ll be hard pressed to find modern mid-sized sedan that won’t do at least 30MPG on the highway, and around 25 MPG combined.

My old Dodge gets 22 city mpg, that is not great fuel economy. I didn’t pay $50,000 for the car.

The fuel economy during daily use is what matters. Some people look at the highway fuel economy rating during the purchase of a new vehicle, then complain they are only getting 18 mpg.

That is true. In my case, my Mustang’s lifetime average is about 21 MPG overall. Which is fine by me and actually a little better than I expected. As mentioned before the F-150 gets about 20 MPG overall, which is significantly better than I was expecting ( I had figured that 17 MPG overall would be a best case scenario), but the 10 speed automatic and lighter aluminum body apparently do yield tangible improvements in fuel economy.
