I have a 98 Honda CRV that sometimes won’t start (though it always starts after being towed to the mechanic’s shop)! When it won’t start, it won’t crank. Basically no noise except a click when I turn the key. The radio, power windows, and other electical devices all work even though the car won’t start. The battery is new and in good shape.

Auto or manual? If auto, the next time it won’t start put in neutral and try.

If manual check the condition of & wiring for the clutch safety switch.

The ignition switch would also be a suspect.

This sounds like a classic failing starter motor assembly to me, speciifically the starter motor circuit contacts in the Bendix assembly.

Good point - I missed the part about the “click”
